Parents & Grandparents Sponsorship

The Parents and Grandparents Program (PGP) allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their parents and grandparents for permanent residence in Canada. Due to high demand, IRCC uses an annual intake process to select a limited number of sponsors through a pool or lottery system. Successful sponsors are invited to submit a complete sponsorship application.

To sponsor parents or grandparents, you must meet minimum income thresholds - specifically, you must have earned at least the Low Income Cut-Off (LICO) plus 30% for three consecutive tax years. You must also sign an undertaking to financially support the sponsored relatives for 20 years. The sponsored individuals must meet health, security, and admissibility requirements.

As an alternative to the PGP, the Super Visa allows parents and grandparents to visit Canada for up to five years at a time, with multiple entries valid for up to 10 years.
