Spousal & Partner Sponsorship

Sponsorship applications for spouses, common-law, and conjugal partners.

Overview

Spousal and partner sponsorship allows Canadian citizens and permanent residents to sponsor their spouse, common-law partner, or conjugal partner for Canadian permanent residence. Family reunification is a cornerstone of Canada's immigration system, and the spousal sponsorship program is one of the most used pathways for bringing loved ones to Canada.

To sponsor a spouse or partner, the sponsor must be at least 18 years old, a Canadian citizen or permanent resident, and demonstrate the ability to financially support the sponsored person. The sponsored partner must not be inadmissible to Canada. Spouses are legally married to the sponsor; common-law partners have cohabited in a conjugal relationship for at least 12 continuous months; conjugal partners have a committed relationship but are prevented from cohabiting due to immigration or other barriers.
